HIV Prevention (PrEP)

The Pill That Prevents HIV

We are here to end the transmission of HIV, and PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a breakthrough tool to do just that. PrEP is designed for people who are HIV-negative and vulnerable to getting HIV. Many people assume they are not at risk, but our providers can discuss your personal risk factors to see if PrEP might be a good option for you.

As long as you keep taking your PrEP daily, you can reduce the risk of getting HIV by about 99%. The FDA has approved two medications for PrEP, Descovy® and Truvada® daily. For many people, PrEP can also help reduce worry and anxiety around sex, leading to healthier, safer, and more fulfilling sex lives.

Virtual Visit: FREE

STI Testing Kit and Return Shipping: FREE

Cost of Optional In-Person Labs: FREE*

Cost of Medication: Little to no cost to you*

The first step to PrEP is choosing from our discreet, at-home testing kit or in-person labs at a local Clinical Pathology Lab or Quest Diagnostic Lab, with no in-person exam required. If you choose the at-home test kit, follow the step-by-step instructions and mail it back using the prepaid postage provided. We will schedule a virtual appointment with your provider to review your test results and help you decide if PrEP is right for you.

If you begin a PrEP regimen, you will get regular virtual check-ups and testing every three months.

The Care Navigation Team will be with you every step of the way to answer any questions you may have including information about your test kit, appointment scheduling, and instructions for any additional labs.

PrEP is a powerful HIV prevention tool, but condoms are still recommended as PrEP doesn’t prevent other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like gonorrhea, chlamydia, or syphilis. We will test for those at your regular check-ups because these are easily treatable infections that can occur even if you don’t have symptoms. We are also here to quickly start HIV treatment for any TeleKind patient who receives a positive diagnosis.
